Review:
„The first book, Daughter of Light and Shadows, is about a young woman, Faye Morgan, whose life is turned upside down when she becomes romantically involved with the attractive and capricious Faerie king Finn Beatha. Set between a tiny village in Scotland and the hedonistic and evocative world of Faerie, Daughter of Light and Shadows is a sexy and suspenseful page-turner with a dark heart. It will publish in October 2018.“
I was looking forward to reading a story about the infamous fairy godmother. I found the idea of the book very interesting and it was great that the author took in old Scottish legends and breathed new life into them.
The heroine Faye is a descendant of what I can only call witches, although it may have been wise women. When we meet Faye, she is quite lonely, but with her two friends she sets off a spell, a love spell. Faye has no idea how special she is and while fascinated by Rav, the youngest inhabitant of her village, it is the mysterious musician Finn who really attracts her attention. Faye is slowly approaching friendly Rav, but she's totally in love with Finn, who kidnaps her into a world so dreamy that Faye remembers reality. Yes, Finn is Fae and he is both beguiling and demanding, but Faye is overwhelmed!
It did not work out the way I wanted it, and honestly, I could not understand the connection between Faye and Rav. It's easier to believe in the kinky relationship with Finn, because he's powerful, cunning, and able to show Faye everything that inherits. No matter how hard I tried I could not get into Rav and Faye together, there was just a wrongness and a lack of anything in common and they were just awkward together. This author clearly has talent and there is a solution to what could have been a messy and dangerous triangle, but she has given herself a way to continue writing about those characters, if she so wishes. I am going to put my faith in this author, and hope that there is a way out of this, and that Faye's knight in shinning armor is still waiting for her out there somewhere, maybe even in the Fae Realm. There is sex, but very little character development, which probably explains why I never understood why Faye was suddenly so in demand. But what came out pretty much in this book was the dangerous nature of fairies, and doing business is never a good idea.
This book gets 3 good stars from me.
