Review:
„The Lord of Stariel is dead. Long live the Lord of Stariel. Whoever that is.
Everyone knows who the magical estate will choose for its next ruler. Or do they?
Will it be the lord’s eldest son, who he despised?
His favourite nephew, with the strongest magical land-sense?
His scandalous daughter, who ran away from home years ago to study illusion?
Hetta knows it won’t be her, and she’s glad of it. Returning home for her father’s funeral, all Hetta has to do is survive the family drama and avoid entanglements with irritatingly attractive local men until the Choosing. Then she can leave.
But whoever Stariel chooses will have bigger problems than eccentric relatives to deal with.
Winged, beautifully deadly problems.
For the first time in centuries, the fae are returning to the Mortal Realm, and only the Lord of Stariel can keep the estate safe.
In theory.
The Lord of Stariel is the first book in the Stariel series. If you like your fantasy mixed with romance, served with a side of mystery, and garnished with statistically improbable quantities of attractive people, you’ve come to the right place!“
Hetta returns to her homeland after 6 years in exile, but she comes home with triumph rather than defeat. She wants to show who she has become and what her gifts are. She wants to prove herself and then return to the city after the new ruler has been elected.
But it lurks danger to them and this comes from the realm of fairies. For the Lord of Stariel is much more than it seems. Although parts of the storyline became clear to the reader pretty quickly and you could imagine how things went, for me the external circumstances were very interesting and the little details in this world. This book combines a lot of what I love in other books. Isolation, feelings, imagination and a lot of magic.
Although the plot did not have many twists and turns, it still has a scene in which I could not see befo
The writing style was charming and light and the figure of Hetta a well-characterized and interesting person. One could sympathize with her after she had been separated from the family for such a long time and had developed further, that nothing that her family said or could influence. She was strong enough and had experienced so much that it shaped her character and she could stand alone. a strong personality. I hope that many readers will read this prelude to this series of books and they enjoy it as much as I do and they would like to read the other books as well. Especially since the end of this book leaves a lot of scope for further development and interesting plots.
I give the book very good 4/5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and Camberion Press for the review copy.re what would happen. Then my heart made a small leap of excitement every time.
